How to Make a Cornhole Scoreboard

created by www.backyardgamez.com

If you would rather purchase a cornhole scoreboard, we have what you're looking for. On sale now w/free shipping is our cornhole scoreboard, which includes a stand with spike for staking into the ground, a dual-sided score card, different colored score markers, two cupholders, and an optional tailgate stand. Check out the details or purchase it by clicking here or check out all our cornhole scoreboards located here.

Cornhole Scoreboard Overview

This whitepaper (manual) is for making a cornhole scoreboard. The scoreboard will have black numbers on each side of the plastic score face. The center will have a black background with the word "cornhole" spelled in white. The scorecard will be attached to a white plastic pole with a metal spike for mounting in the ground. Lastly, the scoreboard will have two plastic cup holders mounted on top of the pole. Below is an image of the finished scoreboard.

  • Project Time: 1 Hour.
  • Project Cost: $25.00.
  • The listed supplies will make a SET of cornhole scoreboards, one for each end/board.

Materials and Cost

The cost of this project was $25.11 per set, or $12.56 per scoreboard. By shopping around and eliminating the black center (Paint Marker), the cost can be substantially lowered. Also, the cost of the masking tape and screw packs should technically be spread over 20-plus scoreboards.

The supplies were purchased from three stores - TSC, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart.

White Vinyl Sign Board, Corrugated Plastic

1 - Create-A-Sign 14" x 18" Corrugated Sign With Frame (TSC, $3.98).

Fence Post Used For Scoreboard

1 - Step-In Poly Fence Post, 48" (TSC, $2.49).

White Letters for Spelling Cornhole

1 - The Paper Studio White Alphabet Sticker Package (Hobby Lobby, $2.99).

Black Letters for Scoreboard

1 - The Paper Studio Black Numeric Sticker Package (Hobby Lobby, $2.99).

Black Paint Marker for Scoreboard

1 - DecoColor Black Acrylic Paint Marker (Hobby Lobby, $4.47).

4-pack of Cup hodlers for Cornhole Scoreboard

1 - 4-pack of Bell Drink Holders (Walmart, $1.96).

Masking Tape

1 - Roll of Masking Tape (optional, Walmart, $0.77).

Screw Pack

1 - Value Pack of Screws (Walmart, $2.97).

Building The Cornhole Scoreboard

Step 1 - Cut The Plastic Sign Into Two Pieces

To begin making our scoreboard, unwrap the corrugated plastic sign and discard the metal post that comes with it (or save for a later project). The width of the sign measures 14". Measure 7" across the bottom, middle, and top and make a mark with a pencil. Next, use a yardstick or ruler to connect the three marks. Once the line is penciled in, use a razorblade or pair of scissors and cut the plastic sign in half. You should now have two plastic scorecards measuring 7"x18", as shown in the below picture.

Step 2 - Tape The Plastic For Coloring

Measure 2" in from each side of the vinyl (2" and 5"). Do this four times up the vertical of the vinyl on each side. Next, connect the dots using a yardstick and a pencil. Apply masking tape along the two lines. Use 2 or 3 layers or painter's tape to ensure the paint won't bleed through the tape.

Step 3 - Color The Middle And Remove Tape

Use the paint marker and paint inside the tape. When finished, remove the tape. Apply as many coatings as needed.

DONE

Your cornhole scoreboard is complete. Stick it in the ground, grab some drinks, and have fun!

Put Screws in, finishing the scoreboard

Project Notes

  • The sticker packages (decals) where 50% off when I purchased them, so I paid $1.98 each.
  • The black coloring bled through the masking tape. I doctored-up the lines a bit for the above images. To avoid bleeding, use a couple layers of masking tape or use painter's tape.
  • I had to hurry a bit when doing this project, so my letters aren't as centered and level as they could be. Being more precise when applying the white letters and black numbers will make the scoreboard look MUCH better.
  • I wanted to make this manual complete, so I included all supplies. Most people will already have screws and masking tape. In addition, one roll of tape and a value pack of screws will easily make 20 or more scoreboards.
  • The decoColor marker was used because I had to make the scoreboards inside. If you will be making yours outside, consider spray paint.
